MOTOR SPORTS TRACK - Speedy approval
Get ready to drop the flag.
The Kansas City Council on Thursday approved a lease agreement with a developer who plans to build a motor sports track on city-owned property next to Kansas City International Airport. The agreement will net the city more than $27.5 million in the next 50 years.
The developer, FastTrack Group LLC, plans to build a 3.7-mile track on 300 acres of vacant land on North Brightwell Road south of Northwest 120th Street.
The track is being touted as a “motor sports country club” in which paying members will be able to race their sports cars and other street-legal autos and motorcycles. The $25 million facility also will have a go-kart track, clubhouse and rental garage.
Construction is expected to start in May, and the track is scheduled to open in spring 2008.
